On Veterans Day, it’s important to take time to honor our country’s heroes ― to celebrate and thank the brave men and women who have given so much to ensure our freedom. It’s a time to shed light on the hard-working organizations set up to make it all possible. The United States Department of Veteran Affairs (VA) is one of the many agencies that work day in day out to ensure veterans are receiving the care they need as they return home.
While veterans benefits have been offered since the American Revolutionary War, this exclusive veteran-focused federal agency wasn’t established until 1989. Over the past 20 years, this cabinet-level department has only gained momentum in its efforts to help war veterans. This is apparent in the more than 2,300 patents currently held by the VA. Their dedication has resulted not only in an increase in the number of patent applications but the patents granted each year.
The VA has 1,398 patents under patent code A61k, meaning preparations for medical, dental or toilet purposes. This is no surprise because a large majority of the VA provides near-comprehensive healthcare services to eligible military veterans at VA medical centers and outpatient clinics throughout the country. However, they offer non-healthcare benefits as well, some of those benefits include:
- Disability Compensation
- Careers and Employment
- Education Assistance
- Housing Assistance
- Life Insurance
These benefits roll up into the remaining 22.3% of patents held by the VA.
By using the ktMINE database and analyzing these various patents, we can determine that the VA is fully committed to upholding their mission, “Caring for those who shall have borne the battle and for their families and survivors,” by striving for excellence in the benefits and services offered to war veterans.
To the veterans who have served our country, we thank you and to the organizations who strive to help these outstanding men and women as they return home, we thank you too.
Happy Veterans Day!
